How stitch count affects embroidery pricing

Embroidery is priced by how long the machine runs, and that is driven almost entirely by stitch count. A simple text logo might land around 3,000 to 5,000 stitches, while a detailed crest with fills and shading can pass 15,000. Knowing the number before you order tells you whether a design needs simplifying.

What changes the count

  • Print width. Doubling the width roughly quadruples the filled area.
  • Solid fills. Large filled shapes use far more stitches than outlines.
  • Small text and fine detail, which need dense stitching to stay readable.
  • Gradients and shading, which rarely translate well to thread.

Is this the final number?

No. This is an estimate to help you budget. The exact count is locked in when a digitizer converts your artwork into an embroidery file, since stitch type, density, and underlay choices all shift the total.
